OTONIEL BORDA GARZON

By LatAm ARTE

He was born in 1979 in Bogota, where he lives and works. In his artistic process, Otoniel Borda links several plastic media to different objects belonging to everyday life. His personal research aims at rediscovering new meanings in the objects and the space, and at making visible some aspects that would otherwise remain unobserved in the strain and stress of everyday life. In this process of extraction, his techniques are also able to show what should not be expressed, through a skilful use of light, its properties and applications. In this piece, the archeological artifact represents the only vestige left from a past that we cannot understand any more except for what we can grasp from its image. “Through a play of reflections, the NAOMA, who in the indigenous Tayrona culture corresponds to the shaman, appears and disappears before the observer’s eyes; its image results distorted, although its essence remains latent in mankind’s memory.”
