Philippe Apeloig is a French graphic designer and typographer, born in Paris in 1962. He studied at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. In 1983, he trained at Total Design in Amsterdam, where he was influenced by modernist design. He began his professional career at the Musée d'Orsay, designing its first exhibition poster. Apeloig later founded his own studio in Paris in 1989. He has worked for cultural institutions like the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Théâtre du Châtelet. His style blends expressive typography with minimalist modernism. He collaborated with luxury brand Hermès, designing for watches and scarves. His work is in collections at MoMA, the BnF, and the Stedelijk Museum. He was art director of Le Jardin des Modes magazine. Apeloig taught at ENSAD, RISD, and Cooper Union in New York. He curated the Herb Lubalin Study Center in New York. He was awarded the title Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2011. In 2013, he had a major retrospective titled Typorama at Les Arts Décoratifs. His designs aim to bring emotion and rhythm into written language.
