Roberto Soares-Gomes is a prominent Brazilian photographer based in Rio de Janeiro. In 2006, he was named Photographer of the Year by Popular Photography & Imaging magazine in the USA. He has won awards in over 360 international photography competitions, including multiple FIAP blue badges, PSA gold medals, and many salon medals and honorable mentions, and his work has been featured in exhibitions across more than 50 countries. Soares-Gomes has also served as President of the FotoClube RioFotográfico and as an advisor for the Brazilian Photographic Art Association. He co-founded the National Photographic Art Salons in Juiz de Fora, as well as the groups ART-SETTE and FOTOCONFRARIA. In the 1990s, he curated exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum of Niterói, the Light Cultural Center, and the FNAC Gallery. From 2017 onward, he has coordinated the open call process for Paraty em Foco , the largest photography festival in South America. His work has garnered recognition including high-profile international awards like the Hahnemühle Anniversary Photo Award, and he continues to inspire through his visionary images and leadership in Brazil’s photographic community.
