Jorge Luis Cabrera García, known simply as Cabrera, is a Cuban architect and graphic designer born on September 2, 1969, in Ranchuelo. Since July 2020, he has contributed as a caricaturist for the satirical publication Melaíto . His strength lies in personal caricatures, through which he has garnered national and international recognition. He earned the First Prize in caricature at Cuba’s José Luis Posada National Salon of Plastic Arts and received a special mention at the 23rd San Antonio de los Baños International Humor Biennial. More recently, in both 2022 and 2023, he received two second-place awards, a mention, and several ancillary prizes at the Juan David National Salon of Personal Caricature. He also won the Humanity and Culture Award at the XVIII National Salon of Humor and Satire, known as the “Temple of Laughter.” Internationally, Cabrera triumphed in the third International Competition for Caricature and Satirical Portraits “Caricatunis 2022” in Egypt. The same year he was honored with the title “Great Artist of the World” at a Romanian exhibition celebrating distinguished figures of the nation and was nominated for the European Cartoon Award. In 2023, he received second prize at the 8th International Contest in Kolasin, Montenegro. In 2024, he earned an Honorable Mention at the 19th Humor Salon in Caratinga, Brazil, as well as a Certificate of Honor at the Rasit Yakali Personal Caricature Competition in Turkey. In 2021, he held his first solo exhibition titled “Positive or Negative?” . His work has also been selected for international caricature exhibitions, including one honoring Mahatma Gandhi. One of his pieces was featured as the cover artwork for the exhibition “With Ties of Humor” , commemorating the 73rd anniversary of Cuban-Egyptian diplomatic relations in September 2022. Cabrera publishes regularly in various press and digital media platforms, contributing to international publications such as Courrier International (France), UWC Cartoon Magazine (Turkey), and SUPAPO (Brazil).
