Jairo Peláez Rincón , artistically known as "Jarape" , is a renowned Colombian cartoonist born in Calarcá, Quindío, in 1958. In addition to his academic background in forensic chemistry, he has built a prolific career in graphic humor, contributing to major publications such as El Tiempo , El Espectador , and El Diario de La República . One of his most iconic characters is "Cándida" , featured in comic strips with strong social criticism. Throughout his career, Jarape has participated in both national and international exhibitions, including the Gabrovo Humor Festival (Bulgaria), Umoristi a Marostica (Italy), and Knokke-Heist (Belgium). In 1989, he received the Ricardo Rendón National Caricature Award .
