By LatAm ARTE

David Álvarez is a Mexican illustrator and graphic designer whose work is marked by strong contrast, thoughtful use of light and shadow, and evocative visual storytelling. He studied art at the Escuela de Iniciación Artística and the Escuela de Diseño at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Over his career, he has developed a style that often uses monochromatic palettes or limited colors to focus attention on form, texture, and mood. His illustrations explore themes of memory, identity, urban life, and the interplay between light and darkness, frequently giving mundane scenes an emotional or poetic resonance. In 2019 he won the international illustration prize awarded by Editorial Edelvives. His work has been exhibited at several renowned venues and book fairs in Mexico and abroad, including those dedicated to children’s literature and illustration. Álvarez also works in caricature and design, bringing his aesthetic into editorial and visual media.
