Marco Gaiotti is an Italian-born nature photographer with a deep passion for documenting and preserving the wild. He was born in Genoa in 1983 and, alongside photography, holds a PhD in naval architecture and teaches at the University of Genoa. His interest in wildlife photography began in 2007 after a transformative trip to Southern Africa. In 2009, he spent a month camping in Alaska, where the untouched landscapes shaped his artistic vision. By 2013, he joined an expedition to the Svalbard Islands, producing work that gained international attention. His images focus on the relationship between wildlife and their environment, often blending subject and habitat into one narrative. He has received recognition from prestigious competitions such as the Sony World Photography Awards, Nature’s Best, and the Windland Smith Rice International Awards. Other honors include the Memorial Maria Luisa and exhibitions at international wildlife photography festivals. Gaiotti’s work is characterized by dramatic skies, evocative light, and context-rich compositions. Beyond photography, he also works as a ski instructor, combining precision and patience in both crafts. He often guides photo tours and lectures, sharing his knowledge with aspiring photographers and conservationists. Environmental storytelling lies at the heart of his photography, raising awareness of fragile and disappearing ecosystems. Through his lens, nature becomes both a visual wonder and a call to protect biodiversity. He continues to explore remote corners of the world, capturing moments where wildness and fragility coexist. Marco Gaiotti represents a unique balance of science and art, uniting technical skill with emotional storytelling in his photography.
