Diango Hernández (b. 1970, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba) is a Cuban artist based in Düsseldorf and Havana. He studied industrial design at ISDI, Havana (1989–1994). He co-founded the Ordo Amoris Cabinet (OAC) in 1994. The group addressed Cuban socio-cultural issues via installation art. From 1996–2003, only Hernández and Francis Acea remained in OAC. They exhibited widely in Europe and the Americas. OAC dissolved in 2003; Hernández moved to Europe. His first solo show Amateur featured 2,000+ Cuban drawings. His art reflects fragility, incompleteness, and Cuban revolutionary culture. In 2006, he presented the trilogy Spies , Traitors , and Revolution . He sought to reclaim and "domesticate" political language. Hernández critiques Cuban political repetition and control. He metaphorically moved from "the street to the living room." He participated in the 51st Venice Biennale (2005). Also shown in São Paulo, Sydney, Basel, Munich, London, and Rovereto. His mediums span drawing, sculpture, and installation. Themes include exile, memory, and identity. His works often reflect nostalgia and resistance. Hernández continues to exhibit internationally. He lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
