Gustavo Ramón Acosta (born December 17, 1958, in Havana, Cuba) is a painter currently based in Miami. He studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and the Superior Institute of Art in Havana. Acosta left Cuba in 1993 and has lived in the United States since 1994. His work is deeply invested in exploring the urban landscape — buildings, architectural forms, and structures are recurring motifs. He often uses them as symbols of power, memory, and the human condition. His compositions evoke mood, atmosphere, and reflection; many show deserted cityscapes, fragmented perspectives, occasional human presence, and tensions between the built environment and nature. Over the years he has exhibited widely in Latin America, the United States, and Europe. His works are held in major collections, including museums in Havana, Miami, New York, and beyond. He is considered part of the “Eighties Generation” of Cuban artists, whose early work dealt with both the ideals and disillusionments of that time.
