Ana Laura Alvarenga (artistically known also as Lana) was born in 1992 in Franca, São Paulo, Brazil. She grew up loving colors and developed an interest in art early on. She studied Graphic Design at the University of Franca and later took specialized courses in arts and 3D at institutions in São Paulo. For a time she worked as an art director in an agency in her hometown. In 2020 she started as a children’s book illustrator, publishing works like Senhor Gentil , which she also wrote. She has illustrated many books since then, collaborating with authors and publishers, and has been recognized by awards such as the “Other Words” literary prize. Her style is rich in color, texture, and warmth, often using watercolor, colored pencils and gouache. Her work tends to evoke tenderness, kindness, closeness — often exploring themes of friendship, gentleness, memory, and emotional connection. She also draws inspiration from her own life experiences, including overcoming cancer, and sees art as both healing and joyful.
