Amanda Mijangos Quiles is a Mexican illustrator born in Mexico City in 1986. She studied Architecture at UNAM, then did a diploma in Illustration at the Academia de San Carlos. She also trained in illustration in Buenos Aires under Daniel Roldán, and studied ceramics in the craft school of INBA. Since 2015 she has been combining illustration with ceramics in her practice. Her work has received many recognitions: she won the 8th Ibero-American Illustration Catalog in 2017, and the Tallinn Illustration Triennale in 2020. She has been selected for major illustration fairs and biennials such as the Bologna Book Fair and the Bratislava Biennale of Illustration. Amanda illustrates poetry and literary texts for young people and adults; her subjects often include animals, plants, symbolic and poetic motifs, nature, color, and texture. Her illustrations are expressive and sensitive, with a strong relationship to the text she works with—she seeks content that allows her to evoke emotions, memory, wonder, and nuance. She is co-founder of the illustration studio Cuarto para las 3 , and since around 2013 she has coordinated public and independent spaces for illustrators, as well as workshops in drawing and illustration for all ages. Her work has been exhibited in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and London, among other countries.
