Ana Hernández is a Mexican visual artist celebrated for her innovative works inspired by the cultural heritage of Mexico. Born in 1991 in Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, she graduated from the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Oaxaca and participated in contemporary art specialization clinics. Ana utilizes diverse techniques in her art, including silkscreen printing, wood carving, textiles, and sound, blending traditional and modern elements. Her practice deeply reflects the traditions and languages of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the region where she was raised. Themes of migration, language, and family often appear in her works, rooted in personal experience and community knowledge exchange. Ana’s art aims to vindicate the value and beauty of indigenous culture in contemporary contexts. She has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in Mexico and internationally, gaining recognition for her dedication to the original peoples’ art. Ana is known for transforming materials such as cotton, beads, wood, and concrete in her installations, often incorporating binary code and ancient symbolism. Her projects, such as the exhibition “Ladi beñe” (Skin of Mud), highlight the interconnectedness of past and present, tradition and innovation.
