Marisol Misenta, known professionally as Isol, is an acclaimed Argentine writer, illustrator, and pop singer. She was born in Buenos Aires in 1972 and continues to live and work in her native city. Isol initially studied to become an art teacher at the Escuela Nacional de Belles Artes. She later transitioned to working full-time as an illustrator and creator of children's picture books. Her artistic debut came in 1997 with the book Vida de perros (A Dog's Life). Her signature style is characterized by expressive, candid, and often ironic drawings. She frequently approaches her stories from the eye level of a child, exposing the absurdities of the adult world. Isol has authored and illustrated many of her own books and has also collaborated with other writers like Paul Auster. Her works are known for their philosophical depth, humor, and use of distinctive color palettes. She is recognized for constantly exploring new formats, like the two-directional book Tener un patito es útil . Isol's books have been published in approximately twenty countries worldwide, including Mexico, France, and Spain. Her immense contribution to children's literature was globally recognized in 2013. In that year, she was awarded the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA). This is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature, solidifying her status. Besides her visual art, Isol is also a pop singer and has been involved in music projects like the band Entre Ríos.
