Marcelo Eduardo Lelis de Oliveira, known simply as Lelis , is a Brazilian illustrator and comic artist born on July 30, 1967 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. He began his professional career in illustration in the mid-1980s, working at local newspapers before moving on to higher-profile publications. Over time he contributed to independent comic magazines and created work inspired by his homeland in northern Minas Gerais. One of his early books, Saino a Percurá , collects stories rooted in regional culture. His international breakthrough came when he was invited to participate in a major European comics festival, which opened doors for him in countries like France and Serbia. Lelis has published several albums, including graphic novels and illustrated works, and continues to work with both traditional and digital techniques. His style balances narrative depth, expressive line work, and color, often combining personal memory, place, and history in his storytelling. He also produces work for younger readers and frequently collaborates with writers. Throughout his career he has gained recognition for both his artistic consistency and his contributions to Brazilian comics culture.
