Gonzalo Ibáñez Vargas is a contemporary artist from Santiago, Chile, born in 1992. His work is primarily in watercolor, where he explores urban environments and everyday life. His artistic style is characterized by its introspective depth, often depicting empty spaces or individuals who seem disconnected from their surroundings. Ibáñez's art is a balance between figurative representation and deliberate ambiguity, using a limited color palette to create a compelling interplay of light and shadow. He highlights the tension between the ordinary and the unique qualities of the urban landscape, finding hidden beauty in what is often overlooked. He has received several awards for his work, including first prize at the Salón Virtual Sociedad Nacional de Bellas Artes in 2023 and first prize at the Festival Mini Castra in Slovenia in 2020. Ibáñez has a background in both art and architecture, holding a degree in Architecture from UCH, and diplomas in Aesthetics and Philosophy from PUC and Art History from PUCV.
