By LatAm ARTE

Marcelo Javier Gonella was born in April 1968 in Alcorta, Santa Fe, Argentina. He is both a medical pediatrician and a visual artist, balancing his work in medicine with drawing and painting. Gonella studied Fine Arts at the Faculty of Humanities and Arts in Rosario, and also took lessons in painting and drawing from professors Miguel Ballestero and Julián Usandizaga. His art is grounded in narrative drawing, often dealing with themes that are socially and politically charged. He uses monochrome or limited-color techniques (graphite, ink, pen) and increasingly expressive, freer strokes. In his practice, the human figure is central, often in moments of everyday life or reflection, and he also experiments with improvisational materials such as coffee stains in drawing. Gonella has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Argentina, showing in places like Rosario, Concepción del Uruguay, and Alcorta, and has been recognized by local cultural institutions. His works often attempt to unveil hidden realities, critique social and political contradictions, and explore the tension between expressive gesture and disciplined drawing.
