Rayma Suprani is a Venezuelan cartoonist, journalist, and activist born in Caracas in 1969. She studied journalism at the Central University of Venezuela. Early in her career, she worked for several newspapers in Caracas, including Economía Hoy and El Diario de Caracas . She then became chief cartoonist at El Universal , where she published satirical political cartoons for 19 years. Her work is known for its sharp social critique, irony, and intelligence. In 2014, she was dismissed from El Universal after publishing a cartoon that criticized the healthcare system, using a flat-lining electrocardiogram and a signature of the late president Hugo Chávez. Since then she went into exile and lives in Miami, continuing her creative work from abroad. Rayma also explores new artistic formats beyond cartoons, including large-format exhibitions and sculpture. She has won several awards, including recognition as one of Venezuela’s leading cartoonists, and remains a vocal defender of freedom of expression and human rights.
