David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896–1974) was a Mexican painter, muralist, and political activist. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, he became one of the “Three Great” Mexican muralists alongside Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco. Siqueiros’s art was deeply influenced by his Marxist beliefs, often depicting the struggles of the working class and indigenous peoples. He participated in the Mexican Revolution and later fought in the Spanish Civil War. His notable works include “Portrait of the Bourgeoisie” and “The March of Humanity.” Siqueiros also founded the Siqueiros Experimental Workshop in New York, influencing artists like Jackson Pollock. Despite multiple imprisonments due to his political activities, he continued to produce impactful art until his death in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
