"Malba-Costantini Collection: Latin America in Expansion"

The exhibition brings together 150 works by major 20th-century artists and reflects the richness of the Malba-Costantini Collection.

As part of its 25th anniversary, Malba presents a new exhibition that brings together a selection from the museum's holdings and the private collection of its founder, Eduardo Costantini.

The works on display, approximately 150 pieces created between 1900 and the 1970s, all of exceptional value, are grouped into eleven sections, giving the exhibition extraordinary educational value. Latin American avant-gardes, socially engaged art, Surrealist poetics, the crisis of reason in the interwar period, and South American Constructivism are magnificently represented.

The exhibition draws on Costantini's founding donation to the Museum in 2001, the numerous acquisitions made since then (many of which set records at public auctions), and Costantini's recent purchase of the Daros Latin American Collection, comprising more than 1,200 works.

This collection, based in Zurich, was probably the most important private collection of Latin American art in Europe. Created by Ruth and Stephan Schmidheiny, it includes installations, videos, and photographs by 117 artists.

Now, with this addition, the Malba-Costantini Collection, with approximately 3,000 works, is the largest and most representative collection of Latin American art in the world, and the exhibition we are discussing (and recommend seeing) is its quintessential expression.

The museum on Avenida Figueroa Alcorta in Buenos Aires (which has an ambitious expansion planned) is also, due to its architecture, size, and functionality, a landmark in the city well worth visiting.
