Joselito Sabogal is a Peruvian painter born in 1971 in Cajabamba. He studied Drawing and Painting at the Macedonio de la Torre School of Fine Arts in Trujillo, and later in France. He lived for several years in Finland, where he also developed part of his work. His visual language blends surrealism, myth, the ancestral imagery of Peru, and futuristic elements. Joselito creates worlds filled with symbolic creatures, hybrid animals, otherworldly landscapes, and mystical narratives. He works in large oils and mixed media, often using textures, glazes, and layering to create depth and dreamlike atmospheres. His exhibitions have traveled beyond Peru to Europe and Australia. Joselito draws inspiration from his Andean roots, pre-Inca and coastal mythologies, and personal experiences. In his recent work, he often mixes mythological motifs with motifs of space, cosmos, and introspection. His art seeks to fuse the sacred and profane, the real and the imagined—to invite viewers into worlds that question identity, belonging, and imagination.
