With the intensification of globalization and the expansion of the international art circuit, contemporary Latin American production has begun to occupy greater space in biennials, museums, and fairs around the world. This recognition has broadened the visibility of artists from the region, but has also brought new challenges.
Artists such as Tania Bruguera (Cuba), Teresa Margolles (Mexico), and Oscar Murillo (Colombia) move between local and global contexts, addressing themes such as migration, borders, work, and systemic violence. Their works engage with international languages of contemporary art, without abandoning issues deeply rooted in their countries of origin.
In this scenario, contemporary Latin American art is not merely "representative" of a region, but acts as an active agent in the construction of global discourses. It questions who produces knowledge, who has a voice, and how art can critically intervene in the contemporary world.
