Black and white photography

Black and white photography

Photography was born in black and white, more precisely as black on white, at the beginning of the 19th century. From the first forms of photography that became popular, such as the daguerreotype - approximately in the 1823s - to today's black and white films, there has been a lot of technical evolution and cost reduction. Current films have a wide tonal range, superior even to colored ones, resulting in photos that are very rich in detail. Therefore, photos made with PB film are superior to color photos converted to BP.

Half tone

The black and white photographs stand out for the richness of tones; color photography does not have the same dynamic range.

In B&W photography, light and shadow are usually used more prominently to create aesthetic effects. There are those who prefer to photograph only on black and white film, even with the greater ease and lower cost of digital equipment. Digital camera sensors still have a much smaller dynamic range than B&W and even color photography, being closer to the slide.
