Arrival of young collectors boosts art market in Brazil
Driven by the internet and decentralization of the Rio-São Paulo axis, a new generation of buyers also includes investors interested in financial gains in the segment
In a cloudy economic scenario, the art market is undergoing important transformations, with developments that, by all indications, will be positive. In the specific case of Brazil, optimism in the sector is high. This can be justified by the notoriety that the country has been gaining worldwide, by the growth of local fairs and, mainly, by the renewal of the public.
According to a survey carried out by the UBS bank in partnership with Art Basel, in 2024 the art market moved US$ 57.5 billion, a drop of 12% compared to 2023. On the other hand, the number of sales increased by 3% and reached 40.5 million transactions. Curators and gallery owners say that, despite representing the entire global market, these numbers reflect a trend already seen in Brazil: the average ticket price is falling, which suggests the arrival of a new consumer profile capable of boosting the segment.
