Museo Ralli Santiago, located in the municipality of Vitacura, will exhibit recent works by national artist Hugo Correa (1957) for the first time in its Gallery 9 (1st Floor). The solo painting exhibition "From Matter to Light"—curated by Manuel Basoalto—is composed of 12 medium-format mixed-media works on canvas. They establish a narrative—in the manner of a classical musical piece—that can be divided into three movements, which Correa has titled: "Post-Apocalypse," "Restart of Life," and "New World."
The exhibition "From Matter to Light" at the Ralli Museum in Santiago (Chile) is the prelude to a major exhibition at the Thuillier Gallery in Paris (France), following his selection with two works at the Ferrara Biennale in Italy.
On this occasion, the artist explores the expressive possibilities of color, the dynamics of forms, pictorial gestures, and the material language of painting to create immersive atmospheres surrounding nature and its imaginary landscapes. With this new line of work, he leaves behind the abstraction and kineticism of his Geometric period to experiment with strong, instinctive, and free strokes on canvas. This is the medium on which he builds a new artistic identity influenced by Constructivism, Impressionism, and Expressionism.
"Correa's work contains an important poetic component, a particular sensibility capable of anticipating the mystery of life, what exists and is evident, but also what we don't see or don't want to see. In them, we can see landscapes that could exist on other planets, burning deserts, traces of ancient structures where life once existed. The atmosphere of films like "Dune" or "Solaris," written by Frank Herbert and directed by Denis Villeneuve.
This exhibition introduces us to an imaginary world that reflects the current state of the world. This is perhaps one of the achievements of these works by artist Hugo Correa. He does so by constructing an imaginary world that transforms reality into the poetic dimension of art," comments curator Manuel Basoalto.
