First exhibition in Colombia of the work of artist José Tola

The renowned ArtBo fair pays tribute to the distinguished Peruvian master
Colombia.- As part of the ArtBo season, Colombia hosts the first international exhibition of the José Tola Foundation, co-produced with the Marissi Campos gallery.

Entitled Language Without Borders: The Order of Chaos, the exhibition pays tribute to the Peruvian master José Tola de Habich (1943–2019) and represents a key step in the international projection of his artistic legacy.

This outstanding exhibition by the Peruvian artist will be open to the public at the El Chicó Museum from September 24 to October 23, 2025, with opening hours from Tuesdays to Sundays and holidays, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The curator is Marissi Campos, renowned cultural manager, director of the Marissi Campos Gallery, and current head of the José Tola Foundation. Her proposal establishes a dialogue between Tola's powerful expressiveness and a growing international scene, positioning the artist as a key figure in the debate on contemporary Latin American art.

Tola does more than just illustrate; he creates compositions in which matter and gesture establish a possible order amidst the storm. His work invites us to linger; it does not aim to tell a story, but rather to provoke a silent dialogue with the viewer.

These pieces, of a forceful and coherent nature that recall the judgment of critic Fernando Ampuero, who described him as "a being of a single piece," reveal Tola's ability to create a visual grammar where the instinctive and the architectural intertwine.

The project has the institutional support of the Peruvian Embassy in Colombia and the sponsorship of Cervecerías Cusco, through its premium mineral water line, Agua Andea. These entities are joining forces to promote and consolidate the international projection of Peruvian art.

José Tola (Lima, 1943–2019) established himself as one of the most influential Peruvian artists of his time. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, he developed a body of work marked by expressionism and symbolism, which led him to participate in biennials such as those in Havana and São Paulo, gaining international recognition.

Marissi Campos Gallery is a traveling space focused on disseminating contemporary Latin American art in unconventional settings, with the aim of democratizing access and promoting collecting in the region.
