Galleries from Mexico and Peru, along with two Venezuelan artists, participate in a photography festival in Spain
Art Photo Bcn brings together 24 galleries, schools, and spaces from Mexico, Peru, and other nations in a festival that highlights female participation and promotes global artistic exchange.
Barcelona (Spain), May 23 (EFE) - A total of 24 galleries, exhibition spaces, schools, and brands from around the world, including those from Mexico and Peru, and two Venezuelan artists, are on the bill for the 12th edition of Art Photo Bcn, a contemporary photography fair and festival taking place this weekend in Barcelona.
The event, a key meeting point for the sector, will feature the galleries Terreno Baldío (Mexico) and Carlos Caamaño Espacio Fotográfico (Lima), among a list of exhibition spaces that also includes participants from Germany, France, Hungary, and Slovenia.
Terreno Baldío is a contemporary art gallery based in Mexico City that, over the course of two decades, has presented more than 110 exhibitions. According to the organizers, more than a gallery, it is conceived as a hub for artistic exchange and production.
For its part, the Peruvian Carlos Caamaño Espacio Fotográfico was founded in 2010 with the intention of giving prominence to photography associated with contemporary art, with a project oriented toward the representation of collective identities, primarily Latin American or from the global south.
This year's Art Photo Bcn highlights the female presence, with more than twice as many female artists as male artists. The artists include Venezuelans Rosalía Bronstein and Oleñka Carasco, as well as Afghan Rada Akbar and South African Zanele Muholi, among others.
The program includes viewings, workshops, and activities open to the general public, and for the first time, two children's workshops will be held.
