The 15th edition of the Rio de Janeiro Art Fair, in partnership with Rio City Hall, will host the Rio de Janeiro's First Art and Culture Week, featuring an intense cultural program across the city's galleries, museums, and institutions.
The main purpose of the Rio de Janeiro Art Fair is to promote cultural events within the fair's atmosphere, encouraging the public to visit new spaces and neighborhoods, fostering public engagement and exchanges among diverse cultural facilities. Furthermore, it aims to encourage initiatives across all regions, boosting the economy and tourism.
The Rio de Janeiro Art Fair has 24 galleries confirmed so far, as well as cultural centers and museums such as MAM Rio, the Rio Art Museum, the Imperial Palace, the Museum of Tomorrow, the City History Museum, the Bispo do Rosário Museum, and the Niterói Museum of Contemporary Art.
During the press conference to present the 1st Rio de Janeiro Art and Culture Week, Lucas Padilha, Rio de Janeiro's Municipal Secretary of Culture, stated, "We want to enhance the impact of one of the largest art events in Latin America through direct collaboration with our network of venues, expanding and diversifying the audiences who frequent the city's cultural spaces, fostering new connections between territories and languages."
Duda Magalhães, president of Dream Factory (which organizes ArtRio), comments, "ArtRio already promoted an extensive cultural agenda in different spaces throughout the city. What we are doing now is effectively organizing this agenda so that information is accessible to everyone. It's also very important to be present in all regions of the city, encouraging access to art and its diverse languages. In September, Rio de Janeiro will be a major artistic event."
From September 7th to 14th, the city's official program will consist of a circuit of activations not only in the visual arts, but also expanded to include film, dance, theater, architecture, design, and artistic expression. All proposals must be free to the public. The city will breathe art and culture for seven days, with events and activities taking place in all regions and various spaces in Rio.
