José Venturelli: A Universal Painter. Art Portfolio Launch at Casa Cultural Yanulaque
This is the last week to admire José Venturelli's work at Casa Cultural Yanulaque. The exhibition concludes with the launch of a reissue of an art portfolio, "Quelque Past de Tout Temps," featuring his work, produced by Perroseco Editores, in celebration of the artist's 100th birthday. It is part of the 2025 program funded by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage through its Support Program for Collaborating Cultural Organizations.

José Venturelli, an essential figure in 20th-century Latin American art, continues to grow and renew his legacy in his centennial. A painter, muralist, and engraver, Venturelli was a bridge between cultures and a tireless traveler, taking his art from Chile to China, via Mexico and Europe. His life and work are characterized by a constant search for new forms of expression and a commitment to the social causes of his time.

From an early age, Venturelli showed a profound inclination toward the visual arts. His early training was influenced by important figures of Latin American muralism, especially David Alfaro Siqueiros, with whom he was a friend, disciple, and collaborator in the creation of large-scale murals. This experience allowed him to understand art as a transformative tool, capable of engaging with people and contributing to their struggles and hopes.

Venturelli was a traveling painter whose work encompasses a wide variety of techniques and media: monumental murals, prints, drawings, and easel paintings. His creations reflect a sensitive and committed perspective on the events of his time, as well as a constant openness to learning and experimentation. Despite his international recognition, especially in China and other countries, in Chile his figure has remained somewhat marginalized, making the recovery and appreciation of his legacy even more significant.

The Arica Activa Foundation, together with Perroseco Editores, in collaboration with Casa Cultural Yanulaque and the José Venturelli Foundation, will launch a reissue of the portfolio "Quelque Past de Tout Temps" (Some Past in All Times) as part of the closing ceremony of this exhibition. Originally released in Switzerland in 1981 by Editart, this portfolio consists of 14 works printed on 14 x 42 cm cotton paper, providing a unique opportunity to experience Venturelli's sensitivity and graphic mastery firsthand. This initiative is funded by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage through PAOCC (the National Commission for Cultural Heritage), and also through FONDART (the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage). The project is awarded by the Arica Activa Foundation, thus strengthening cultural management in the regions.
