Corrientes inaugurates the first Museum of Contemporary Art in Northeast Argentina

Corrientes will inaugurate the first Museum of Contemporary Art in the Northeast with more than 300 works on display.

Inspired by the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), the project combines architectural modernity with respect for the original mid-20th-century structure. From the main entrance on 9 de Julio Street, visitors will enter a triple-height space with a sculptural staircase and an internal balcony that will serve as a hub for exhibitions and performances.
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Corrientes (MACC) is preparing to open its doors in the historic building located at San Juan and 9 de Julio Streets, becoming the first space of its kind in Northeast Argentina. With more than 300 works by local, national, and international artists, the new museum seeks to establish itself as a cultural and architectural landmark in the region.

With a total area of 4,200 square meters spread over five levels, three of which are newly built, the MACC combines cutting-edge technology, functional design, and environmental sustainability. Of this total, 1,300 square meters will be dedicated to exhibition halls with heights of up to five meters, specifically designed for large-format works.

On the ground floor, the museum will open onto Plaza Vera with a bar that will expand into the public space, while the fourth floor will house a restaurant with panoramic views of the historic center. It will also feature a cafeteria, a bookstore, and a gift shop, as well as recreational and rest areas designed to encourage social interaction.

Regarding accessibility, the building will incorporate two elevators and a large freight elevator to ensure the safe transfer of works and the comfort of visitors.

Technology and Sustainability

The MACC will also be a model of smart and sustainable infrastructure. It will feature an FM200 gas fire suppression system, which protects the works without using water, along with optical, thermal, and smoke sensors connected to an intelligent BMS system, capable of monitoring temperature and humidity, essential variables for the conservation of the exhibits.

Furthermore, the museum will seek international LEED certification, which recognizes sustainable buildings. To this end, windows were retrofitted with hermetic double glazing, fire-resistant paints were applied, and the structures were reinforced with a new central concrete core for stairs and elevators.

A New Cultural Landmark for Corrientes

With its upcoming opening, the Corrientes Museum of Contemporary Art is projected to create a new urban identity and a meeting point for art and the community. Its programming will include permanent and traveling exhibitions and interdisciplinary activities, strengthening the local cultural scene and positioning Corrientes as an artistic hub of national relevance.

"It will be a space that will exhibit more than 300 works and offer multiple cultural and recreational environments for all visitors," the provincial government emphasized.
The MACC promises to be not only a place to contemplate art, but also a space to create, discuss, and experience new cultural experiences in the heart of the city.
