Amparo em Foco Photography Festival starts Thursday (5) with free attractions

The 7th edition of the Amparo em Foco Photography Festival, one of the most important in the State of São Paulo, features free programming aimed at audiences of all ages. The event takes place between October 5th and 8th, Thursday to Sunday, at Praça Pádua Salles, in the Center, in Ampaor.

There will be more than 20 activities including workshops, exhibitions, lectures, conversation circles and photographic outings. In 2023, the festival's main theme is the role of women in Brazilian photography.

Names such as Nair Benedicto, Mônica Maia, Carmem Negrão, Dani Sandrini, among other personalities from the national photography universe, have confirmed presence at the festival. The complete program is available on the website www.amparoemfoco.com.br.

To convey the importance of women photographers, Amparo em Foco confirmed the participation of Nair Benedicto. She is a pioneer in the country in giving a voice to minorities, using her work to address issues such as prejudice and violence against women, homosexuals and indigenous people.

A Unicef delegate between 1988 and 1989, imprisoned and tortured during the dictatorship, her work is part of the collections of the modern art museums in Rio de Janeiro (MAM) and New York (MoMa).

Nair Benedicto dedicated his career to making audiovisual and photographic documentaries about the living conditions of children and women in Latin America, as well as social themes and popular demonstrations in Brazil. The photographer and activist will hold a conversation, alongside Carmem Negrão, about “Female protagonism in Brazilian photography”, the main theme of the event. The chat takes place on Saturday (7), at 8pm, at Mogiana Station.
