The first Latin American art fair in Paris will bring together 17 galleries in September

Paris (AFP) – The first Latin American art fair in Paris will bring together 17 galleries between September 18 and 22, as well as collectors from both sides of the Atlantic, organizers reported.
"It is time to show Latin American art in Paris, the conditions are there, the interest of collectors is great," the organizer, Colombian Manuela Rayo, told AFP during the presentation of the event on Tuesday night.

The fair will be held at the Maison de l'Amérique Latine, in the Latin Quarter of Paris.

Among the participating galleries is El Apartamento, which operates between Madrid and Cuba; the Mexican Proyectos Monclova, 193 Gallery, which has stores in Paris and Venice; and Wizard Gallery, founded in Milan by the Venezuelan Federico Luger.

Manuela Rayo has worked in one of the main cultural organizations in France, the Réunion des musées nationaux, which manages the Grand Palais, home of important public exhibitions in Paris.

Among the invited artists there are well-known names from the Cuban diaspora, such as Raúl Cordero (1971) and Diango Hernández (1970) or the Mexican Gabriel de la Mora (1968).

"Paris has the necessary structures, and has always shown itself as a pole of attraction. The situation is aligning so that it is here and not in another city," estimated one of the fair's curators, Maylin Pérez.

"Well-known galleries have been taken into account but also emerging ones," she added.

The Parisian art scene was shaken two years ago with the arrival of Art Basel, a large Swiss group that organizes the great international fair in Basel, as well as its regional versions in Miami (a great center for Latin American art) and Hong Kong.

Art Basel won the competition to manage the Paris Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC).
