MALBA Celebrates 25 Years

MALBA celebrates its 25th anniversary with a new permanent collection and previously unseen Latin American works.
MALBA kicked off its 25th anniversary celebrations with a major renovation of its permanent collection, titled “Latin America in Expansion.” The exhibition brings together nearly 150 emblematic works of Latin American art from both the museum's collection and the private collection of Eduardo F. Costantini.

One of the most important aspects is the addition of works never before seen in Argentina from the Daros Latinamerica collection, recently acquired by the museum. This purchase adds more than 1,200 pieces by contemporary Latin American artists and is considered by Costantini to be a “foundational” event for MALBA.

The new exhibition offers a contemporary interpretation of Latin American art, organized into ten thematic sections. These include sections titled “Manifestation,” “Abaporu,” “Spatial Relief,” and “Luminous Continuity.” The curatorial approach seeks to showcase how Latin America constructed its own artistic identity by blending European influences with local cultures.

The collection includes works by key historical artists such as:

Frida Kahlo
Diego Rivera
Tarsila do Amaral
Antonio Berni
Xul Solar
Leonora Carrington

In addition to the redesign of the permanent collection, MALBA announced an international program of temporary exhibitions for 2026. Among the featured exhibitions will be:

Olga de Amaral
Fernanda Laguna
Dan Flavin
Abel Rodríguez
Vivian Suter
and a special exhibition on Frida Kahlo called “Viva Frida.”

The museum also confirmed plans for architectural expansion. A new building of approximately 4,000 square meters is planned beneath Plaza Perú in Buenos Aires, featuring new galleries, auditoriums, and educational spaces.

According to Costantini, the goal is to consolidate MALBA as one of the most important institutions of Latin American art in the world and to make the collection an international reference.
