Latin American Pavilion Among the New Attractions at LA Art Show

Los Angeles, USA, January 4 (Prensa Latina) For the upcoming edition of the LA Art Show, from January 7 to 11, organizers are promoting the Latin American Pavilion for the first time as one of the major attractions at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This area of the festival—probably the most popular art fair in the United States—will be specifically dedicated to the talent of that region, and will be curated by Argentine curator Marisa Caichiolo.

In a press release, the event organizers explained that the works in the Latin American Pavilion will focus on memory, migration, and identity, themes that will generate “a profound ancestral inquiry into the dynamics of power in the representation of artists within the gallery system.”

The goal is to invite the public to reconsider the origins, belonging, and ever-evolving future of Latin American art across borders, Caichiolo stated in the text, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“At a time when immigration issues continue to disproportionately affect Latin American communities, it is especially important to provide a platform for these artists,” she explained.

For the specialist, although the perspectives of Latin American creators are vital for a more complete and equitable understanding of contemporary art, they remain underrepresented at major art fairs.

“This pavilion seeks to amplify their voices and affirm Latin America’s cultural and creative contributions on the global stage,” she stated.

Participating in this pavilion will be the Artier Fine Art gallery, which will present the exhibition “In the Mouth of the Jaguar: Myths Reimagined,” bringing together 10 contemporary Latin American artists who explore, reclaim, and reconstruct the ancestral mythologies of the Americas.

In that space, visitors can appreciate works by Natasha Grey (Mexico), Ender Martos (Venezuela), Dario Ortiz (Colombia), Moises Ortiz (Mexico), Luigi Fantini (Mexico), Brigitte Briones (Mexico), Ariel Vargassal (Mexico), Guillermo Bert (Chile), Miguel Osuna (United States), and Carlos Luna (Cuba).

Meanwhile, Verse Gallery will present six artists, including Maquiamelo from Colombia, Esteban Jácome from Ecuador, Maca Vivas from Mexico, and Johnny López from Colombia.
