With a 560-square-meter mural, Medellín inaugurates its first Graffiti and Urban Art Biennial
The Graffiti Biennial seeks to position the city as the Latin American epicenter of urban art
With the unveiling of a large 560-square-meter mural on Guayabal Avenue, Medellín kicks off Latidos, the first Graffiti and Urban Art Biennial, this Thursday, July 24th at 10:00 a.m. The event will run through October and will be held in seven communes and the township of San Cristóbal, with the aim of highlighting the transformative power of art in public spaces.
The Biennial, organized by the APP Agency, the Secretariat of Citizen Culture, Postobón, and the Pintuco Foundation, in partnership with the Mesa Graff and urban artists from the city, seeks to consolidate Medellín as a benchmark for the production and promotion of urban art in Latin America.
The communes of 1-Popular, 8-Villa Hermosa, 9-Buenos Aires, 13-San Javier, 14-El Poblado, 15-Guayabal, 10-La Candelaria, and the San Cristóbal district will be the setting for this aesthetic and social mobilization. Through murals, interventions, and educational activities, the Biennial will showcase both artists with extensive experience and collectives and schools with at least two years of experience in the area.
Latidos is inspired by the power, passion, and social impact of urban art, connecting artists, neighborhoods, industrial zones, and downtown Medellín in a large collective canvas. The program will include tours, community gatherings, and artistic performances in various locations throughout the city.
