Inhotim presents exhibition of South American indigenous art at Galeria Claudia Andujar
Long-term exhibition brings together 22 artists from various South American countries in dialogue with the work of Claudia Andujar

The Inhotim Institute has just opened a long-term exhibition at Galeria Claudia Andujar, now also called Maxita Yano (“earth house” in Yanomami), with 90 works by 22 indigenous artists from South America. The exhibition proposes a dialogue between the collection of the Swiss-Brazilian photographer and activist with contemporary productions that address spirituality, activism, daily life and territory. Among the names present are Denilson Baniwa, UÝRA, Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá, Graciela Guarani, Paulo Desana, as well as artists from countries such as Bolivia, Colombia and Peru.

The exhibition marks the tenth anniversary of the gallery dedicated to Claudia Andujar, but goes beyond celebration. It broadens the political and poetic scope of the space by bringing together productions that address community alliances, ancestral cosmologies and the conflicts that cross the original territories. Artists such as Elvira Espejo Ayca (Bolivia), Julieth Morales (Colombia) and Olinda Silvano (Peru) weave together a network of voices and perspectives from different parts of South America.
