Honduras: Art, Migration, and the Voices of the Honduran Caribbean

Honduran art has historically been less visible, but it possesses a unique richness, especially on the Caribbean coast. Garifuna culture, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (2001), contributes a vibrant tradition of music, dance, and visual art. Arturo López Rodezno and Teresa Fortín were pioneers of modern Honduran painting. The National School of Fine Arts has trained generations of artists. In recent decades, migration and violence have shaped artistic production: artists like Adán Vallecillo address displacement, memory, and political ecology through installations and video. The Honduras Art Biennial and the Spanish Cultural Center in Tegucigalpa have energized the scene. Honduran art is a voice claiming its place in the Central American art scene.
