UFPI professor receives Funarte Masters and Masters of Arts 2023 award
Yolanda Carvalho, woodcutter and teacher, is the only representative from Piauí in the Ministry of Culture award

Professor Yolanda Carvalho, member of the Department of Arts at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), was honored by the Ministry of Culture with the Funarte Masters and Masters of Arts 2023 Award, standing out as the only representative of the state in the recognition.

Specializing in wood engraving, a wood carving technique used in the production of engravings, the teacher is not only dedicated to this form of expression for its beauty, but also because she recognizes its playful role in the teaching and learning process. In exhibitions and workshops, Yolanda Carvalho uses woodcuts to encourage students to reflect on the world around them through their art.

The final result of the Funarte Masters and Masters of the Arts 2023 Award was announced on December 22, 2023, with professor Yolanda Carvalho among the recipients. The award, which received 737 proposals, aims to encourage and spread the memory of the arts in Brazil, valuing the trajectories of outstanding agents in the areas of visual arts, circus, dance, music, theater and integrated arts.
