“My work can be studied through gestures”: Beatriz González
Exhibition by Beatriz González at the University Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City.
'War and Peace: A Poetics of Gesture', an example of the work of Beatriz González, is exhibited in Mexico City. Although partly a retrospective, this exhibition is also an analytical stance on her operations as a painter through the search for gesture.
From last November 25 to June 28, 2024, the University Art Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico presents the exhibition War and Peace, a Poetics of Gesture, which reviews the work of Beatriz González . The exhibition is very different from the retrospective exhibitions that have been presented in Europe and the United States in recent years. The MUAC proposal shows the paths that Beatriz González has taken in exploring the power of communication of the figure.
In addition to showing some of her key works, the exhibition provides elements to analyze how the artist has investigated the bodily gestures present in her paintings. The exhibition shows a series of works based on graphic journalism that she has developed and reinterpreted through paintings, drawings, engravings and public works. The exhibition was curated by Cuauhtémoc Medina, Mexican, and Natalia Gutiérrez Montes, Colombian, a very deep connoisseur of the work of Beatriz González. War and Peace: A Poetics of Gesture is the first monographic exhibition by Beatriz González to be held in Mexico.
