Artworks from the exclusive Rosa de la Cruz Collection are exhibited in Miami

The exhibition of the contemporary art collection of patron Rosa de la Cruz can be seen from April 9 to 12 before being auctioned at Christie's in May
MIAMI.- In the heart of Miami's Design District, the prestigious auction house Christie's presented this Monday an exclusive preview of the Rose of the Cross Collection, which contains more than 100 works of art by creators such as Christopher Wool, Wade Guyton, Tauba Auerbach, Rashid Johnson, Jim Hodges, Glenn Ligon, Mark Grotjahn, Sigmar Polke and Joe Bradley.
The exhibition offers a look inside the iconic contemporary art collection of patron Rosa de la Cruz (August 13, 1942 - February 25, 2024), and can be seen from Tuesday, April 9 to Friday, April 12 .
It is worth noting that among the pieces is Star Gazer (1956), by the Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo. This was the first work they acquired for their collection, in 1988.

Ana Mendieta occupies a special place in the exhibition, as there are numerous works by the Cuban artist, whose experimentation with the body and the earth was the center of her performative discourse.

This is a unique opportunity to appreciate works from the collection, which will be up for auction at Christie's in May. Those interested in attending the exhibition these days need to make an appointment through email miami@christies.com

More about the Rose of the Cross Collection
Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz met in Havana, Cuba, and in 1960, after Castro came to power, they emigrated to the United States, where they married a few years later. Both of their families had an affinity for culture and art, since Rosa's grandfather was an architect and Carlos's family collected art.

In the late 1980s, Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz began collecting art from their home in Miami, which they opened to the public by appointment only. For many years they gathered outstanding pieces of contemporary art, including a large number of post-war German paintings.

From 2001 to 2007, Rosa founded and chaired Moore Space, a gallery located in the Design District. Rosa and Carlos subsequently began planning and building the current Cross Collection on 41st Street, a 30,000-square-foot museum that opened in 2009 and consists of more than a thousand objects.

The Collection has also organized conferences, educational fellowships in New York for high school students, educational trips to Europe for undergraduate students at the New World School of the Arts, and summer workshops for elementary school children.
