Art Basel Miami Beach, the time for the most innovative textile art

Miami, USA, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The Miami Beach Convention Center is making preparations today to host the Art Basel Miami Beach fair, where the use of techniques inspired by abstraction, geometry or classical forms will be points of reference.

This forum will take place from December 6 to 8 with textile artists, such as the Peruvian-American Sarah Zapata or the Indian Sagarika Sundaram, who will display their mastery in the collective exhibition "Threads."

This exhibition brings together works by a group of creators who adopt an innovative approach to textiles and crafts, and explore different traditions between art, crafts and design, Art Basel said in a statement.

UBS Art Studio, in collaboration with ARTNOIR, will offer an individual presentation of the pieces by Zapata, an artist of Peruvian descent, and a large-format installation by Sundaram, who, according to the event, represent "innovative voices that define the fair."

India Sundaram is a creator of sculptures, reliefs and installations using natural fibers and dyes, and UBS Art Studio commissioned her to create the centerpiece of “Threads,” her largest work to date, made of hand-dyed wool and silk.

This installation can be reconfigured and according to the statement released by the fair, the large work creates an immersive experience where form and void, surface and structure, become tangible forces that reshape the viewer’s perception of space.

UBS Global Art Collection Director Mary Rozell called Sundaram’s work “monumental work” for its ability to transform textiles into powerful sculptural forms, she said.

Art Basel Miami Beach, the largest art event on the American continent, closed its 2023 edition with strong sales, the attendance of some 80 thousand people, revelations such as the paintings of actor Pierce Brosnan in a parallel event, and a solid return of collectors who paid tens of millions of dollars for works. \
